- Empowering Youth Art Jamming Workshop with Manchester Worldwide (South East Asia)
December 8, 2018 Art For Good led a group of youths in an exciting Art Jam session, organized by Manchester Worldwide (South East Asia) as part of its annual CSR outreach programme. The event was aimed to empower youth and saw two alumni of the university, Andrea Abatte and Willard Ng, sharing their different journeys toward fulfilling their dreams. The message to the youths was to “Follow Your Dreams”. What ensued next was great fun between the youth and alumni of the University, who formed pairs to co-create unique pieces of artwork aimed at expressing their dreams. Through our online shop, we invited the alumni and the public to EMPOWER A YOUTH today through our charity sales. Each artwork is priced at $100 (except for the 3 most popular art pieces priced at $120 each) and the total proceeds of all artworks sold would be donated to the Youth from the Expedition Agape (EA) programme. The Expedition Agape (EA) is a programme by the Lakeside Family Services that transforms and empowers the lives of teenagers through intentional mentoring by adult volunteers and a structured programme over a period of 6 months to develop the participants as “Leaders in Action”. More info can be found at www.expeditionagape.org. Each artwork sold will fund the programme and educational materials for ONE youth participant of the Expedition Agape for 2 sessions (or over 2 weeks).
- Finger Puppets Art Team Bonding Activity for Hougang Primary School
November 19, 2019 Participants in the event created 15 finger puppets, based on the favourite characters of the special needs children from Club Rainbow who had been hospitalised at KK Hospital for their medical conditions. There were around 100 participants who worked together in teams to design and put together the finger puppets within 2 hours! These finger puppets were created from scratch and came with a personalised message from each of the groups. We gifted the finger puppets to the nominated children at Club Rainbow during their Christmas party! They were ecstatic to receive the finger puppets of their favourite characters, which made it more meaningful as the children were receiving something they really liked. There were smiles and happiness all around, giving the children some respite from their illnesses and suffering. What a wonderful and meaningful way to end the year! If you are looking for a meaningful art team bonding activity like this, we would love to collaborate on creative projects that contribute to our community!
- Food Art Workshop At Chen Su Lan Methodist Home
April 14, 2018 Unleash your boundless creativity! Our curated art program seamlessly blends culinary delights with artistic expression. Prepare to embark on a culinary adventure where edible masterpieces come to life! We were honored to be invited to Chen Su Lan Methodist Home, where we conducted an enchanting food art workshop for the children. Together with the esteemed presence of Singapore President Halimah Yaccob, the young participants collaborated to create a captivating rendition of the Singapore National Flag. Witnessing the President’s heartfelt interaction and the children’s artistic journey was an awe-inspiring sight for all. As an extra treat, the children actively contributed to the creation of a delightful Snoopy Bento Box, which they proudly presented to the President during lunch. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Charlie Brown Cafe for generously sponsoring the workshop, ensuring the highest standards of food safety with their food safety license and halal-certified kitchen.
- Fun With Drawing At (NLB) Toa Payoh Library
May - July. 2019 Art for Good collaborated with the National Library Board of Singapore (Toa Payoh Branch) for a series of 3 drawing classes at the library level 3 programmes room. The classes were open to the public and our volunteers brought the children from our Art Outreach Program to attend the classes. The children from our Art Outreach program are from low-income families living in one-room rented flats in Toa Payoh. The initiative of our Art Outreach Program is to use art to bring more attention to the poverty situation in Singapore. The second class allowed the children to explore their creativity and learn the fundamentals of basic drawings. The children created cute animal drawings of a mouse, cow and seal. They got the chance to make use of their creativity by adding their own designs to personalize their animals. They gave their characters names and some even made their own stories about the characters they had created. As the community art project was done in the library, we wanted to have a storytelling element in the class. The children were very creative in their approach and drew sublimely well! Our third and final drawing class at Toa Payoh Library was opened to public and our art outreach children. The children learnt to draw various sea creatures starting from dolphins and turtles to other different types of fishes.
- Merdeka Generation Celebration Open House
July 6, 2019 As part of the Merdeka Generation Celebration Open House at Pasir Ris Elias Community Club, Art for Good had the pleasure of conducting a lively Clay Art Workshop for residents of all ages. This community art initiative aimed to introduce participants to a new art-making experience while bringing people together through creativity. We worked with a colourful, easy-to-use, non-toxic, and child-friendly air-dry clay medium that allowed everyone to create with ease. Guided by our facilitators, participants shaped charming garden-themed figurines—caterpillars, bees, flowers, and ladybugs soon filled the tables. Some of the children went even further, letting their imagination run free with their own whimsical creations. (Keep an eye out—you might even spot a dinosaur!) Beyond the adorable artworks, the workshop encouraged self-expression, exploration, and fun, showing how creativity can flourish in unexpected ways. Invitations like these are close to our hearts, as they give us the chance to celebrate art as a joyful tool for connection and community building.
- MOE PSB Teddy Bear Christmas Project
October 29, 2018 In 2018, we had the joy of designing and facilitating a heartwarming team bonding activity for MOE Psychological Services Branch (PSB). The mission was simple yet powerful: to create handmade teddy bears as Christmas presents for children with rare disorders from the Rare Disorders Society of Singapore (RDSS)—our charity partner, where we provide free clinical art therapy sessions for their beneficiaries. A total of 88 participants took part in this meaningful project. Working in teams, and even collaborating across groups rather than competing, they successfully produced 11 unique teddy bears—all within just two hours! Each bear was lovingly handcrafted from scratch, accompanied by a personalised message or story from the team that made it. The result was more than just toys. These teddy bears carried with them warmth, encouragement, and the spirit of giving. For the children of RDSS, they were a symbol of care and joy. For the MOE PSB participants, the project was a testament to teamwork, creativity, and the power of art to build meaningful connections. This special collaboration truly embodied our belief in building relationships through art, and using art to do good.
- Music Art Therapy With Children With Autism
June 9, 2019 20 children with autism and their families turned up at The Artground for Mozart 36, a unique art-music experience. Designed by art therapist Amanda Chen from The Red Pencil – Humanitarian Mission, Singaporean concert violinist Tang Tee Khoon and animateur Sharon Sum from Tang Tee Khoon Grand Series, Mozart 36 encourages children to explore the connection between their emotions and art, and provides a sensory experience and stimulus for children with special needs or for those who are living in challenging circumstances. Animateur Sharon Sum first led the children with autism and their siblings to create big body movements with live Mozard music presented by British pianist Sam Haywood and Singaporean violinist Tang Tee Khoon. Subsequently, art therapist Amanda Chen taught them how to use soft pastels to express themselves on craft paper as the music played on. It was a joy to watch the children immerse themselves in this beautiful pairing of art and music. Even JY who had not shown much interest in art had a whale of a time playing with the mixture of colours under the special effect of live classical music. The session drew to an end as the music faded. It would have been difficult to send the children off if not for the visual arts space, Happy Homebodies designed by Gracie Chai, awaiting outside. We would like to thank Tang Tee Khoon Grand Series and The Red Pencil for extending the invitation to Friends of ASD Families. Our children were so blessed to have this interesting exposure to the arts. The families had great fun and were especially grateful that even the siblings could join in. Thank you Jessie Goh, Sharon, Kee Khoon, Sam, Amanda, art therapy students and volunteers for putting this event together for us. We took the opportunity to support Metta Cafe by getting some cookies baked by youths with special needs as a small token of appreciation for the whole team.
- Murals For The Community And Team Bonding
July 27, 2019 Commissioned Mural Projects Murals create a tangible sense of place by adding colour, vibrancy, and character to the environment. Murals contrast the negative mental health effects and can have therapeutic benefits. We have been commissioned to do murals and art installations, where we engage local artist talents. 2017 We were commissioned to paint the facade of KAMA Restaurant, this mural was sponsored by Budweiser. (Image 1) 2018 We created an inspirational wall at East Coast Primary School, where the children would later stick on their dreams, beliefs and achievements. The wall writes “Dream, Believe, Achieve”. (Image 2 & 3) 2017 Jovis Cafe commissioned us to paint a Psalm inspired mural, “As a Deer”. They loved it so much that they even installed lightings to enhance the mural. (Image 4) 2018 This was our biggest mural project at Clementi Woods Kindergarten. This project took 200 hours and 6 artists to complete over 10 days. We had participants stopping by our booth to write messages of encouragement for our beneficiaries who were struggling with difficult times. Most of the participants who stopped by were children. It was nice to see empathy, compassion and the giving spirit from such an early age. We also had a guest of honour, Member of Parliament, Mr. Lee Yi Shyan, stopping by our booth to find out more about what we do and how he can support. We are grateful for opportunities like these to explore how we can help more children through our organisation. - Pasir Ris Beach Art Festival Sand Sculpture (2019)
July 27, 2019 In 2019, Art for Good had the wonderful opportunity to take part in the Pasir Ris Beach Art Festival, a community art initiative by the People’s Association. Set against the lively theme “Long Long Ago”, our team brought the beloved tale of The Little Mermaid to life in the Pasir Ris Park sand pit through an elaborate sand sculpture installation. The event featured three interactive components designed to delight and engage the community. At the heart of it stood the grand sand sculpture of the Little Mermaid, capturing the timeless story in intricate detail. Beside it, a playful mermaid’s tail sculpture invited festival-goers to strike a pose and imagine themselves as part of the undersea world. To complete the experience, a dedicated sand play area with toys allowed children to create their very own sculptures, encouraging hands-on fun and creativity. This initiative was part of the annual PAssionArts Festival, organised by the Community Arts and Culture Division (People’s Association). The festival’s mission is to bring quality arts programmes to the community—by the community—making art accessible, meaningful, and shared by all.
- Refugee Art Therapy And Empowerment Program
2018 Art for Good partnered with Jesuit Refugee Service Singapore (JRS) and Kumpulan ACTS (ACTS) to embark on an ongoing project to provide Art Therapy for refugees. The refugees from this project reside in a medical respite facility in Malaysia. Most of them have physical health issues, some are recovering while some are suffering from incurable or terminal illnesses. There is a mixed demographic of Burmese refugees. Art Therapy is provided to the refugees which include pre-school children, women, men and caregivers of the facility who may get burned out at times. Each workshop consists of a one-hour art therapy session. The objective of art therapy is to provide emotional support and therapeutic relief from their suffering. The project first started in November 2017 and continues regularly every 3-4 months. Art therapists are invited to join on a voluntary basis. JRS sponsors art materials, travel expenses, accommodation and food for the therapists over a 3-day period. Women Empowerment Project We empower the women from the facility by teaching them crafting skills. Art for Good organizes, sponsors the art materials, markets and sells their products to support these women. The intention of this project is to promote interaction, engagement and sustainable income for the women at the facility. Artists are invited to join us in Malaysia to teach them different crafting skills. The crafts taught include sewing, embroidery and decoupage. By learning new crafting skills, these women can make their own merchandises to create awareness and funding for this project. The merchandises are sold at our flea market booths in Singapore.
- SG Sports Paint-nalty Event
July 14, 2018 This community sports and art project “Paint-nalty” was sponsored by Sports SG and was open to the public. The children from our Art Outreach Program also participated in this event. Paint-covered soccer balls were kicked onto a canvas sheet that was stretched on a goal post, creating interesting designs and patterns. The event provided engagement for all ages, with participants as young as 4 years of age. The objective of the event was to promote the importance of sports and art among our community. A record was broken that day, with the Singapore Book of Records recognizing the event as the “Largest Artwork Made from Penalty Kicks”. We invited the public to join and help us break this record. We managed to gather around 100 participants to engage in this activity. The canvas from this event was then put to use in our social community art project, where we transformed the canvas into merchandises which are available for purchase. The project aims to bring more awareness towards the poverty situation in Singapore and raise funds for our Art Outreach Program. For our Art Outreach Program, we use art to connect with children from low-income families, where we provide free art enrichment classes to those who are not able to afford such classes.
